The Lighthouse Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Hamburg . The operational office has been in Kiel since 2006 .

History and purpose of the foundation

The Lighthouse Foundation was founded in Hamburg in 2000 as the “Foundation for the Seas and Oceans ”. The foundation capital of 25 million euros comes from the Hamburg economy. The purpose of the foundation according to the statutes is to promote science and research, teaching, culture, environmental awareness and sustainable development in relation to the seas and oceans.

activities

The foundation operates worldwide. Solution-oriented projects related to the sea are funded, which are intended to provide concrete development impulses within a defined regional framework and aim to sustainably improve the living conditions of the population concerned and contribute directly to a visible reduction in marine resource consumption.

The projects are intended to provide examples of the feasibility of sustainable development in line with Agenda 21 . Through its activities, the foundation aims to show the connection between man and the sea and to provide the public with a better understanding of marine issues.
