Jazz Ishmael Butler (born October 3, 1995 ), known as Lil Tracy , is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. At the beginning of his career he was also known by the name Yung Bruh . He is known for his collaboration with the late rapper Lil Peep , particularly through the song Awful Things which debuted at number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 . He comes from the SoundCloud rap and underground scene.

Life

Jazz Butler was born on October 3, 1995 in Virginia Beach . His father is Ishmael Butler from the hip-hop trio Digable Planets , his mother is the R&B singer Cheryl Clemons , better known as "Coko" from the R&B trio SWV . Butler said of his childhood in Virginia Beach, "It sucks, but I love it." He grew up listening to emo music and southern hip hop artists who inspired him to make music. Butler's parents separated when he was young, and he lived alternately with his mother and father. Butler attended Garfield High School in Seattle . He became homeless at the age of 17.

Career

Butler started making music when he was 15, and moved to Los Angeles when he was 18 to focus on his music career and live homeless there. Butler originally started rapping under the name Yung Bruh and released several mixtapes in the Thraxxhouse collective . Some members of Thraxxhouse , including Tracy, eventually formed their own group, the GothBoiClique . Through the group, Butler met New York rapper Lil Peep . They worked together on the song White Tee on Peep's mixtape Crybaby , which was popular in the hip-hop underground. The single Overdose with Lil Peep was also successful.

Butler left Thraxxhouse in mid-2016 and then changed his stage name from Yung Bruh to Lil Tracy , as another artist was already using the nickname Yung Bruh . With his new name he published the mixtape Tracy's Manga on February 1st, 2017. Two months later he published XOXO on April 3rd. In the single Awful Things from Lil Peep's album Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1 Tracy was featured in August 2017. The single peaked at number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 .

On July 31, 2017, Butler released the mixtape Life of a Popstar .

In 2018 he released two more EPs: Designer Talk on October 5th and Sinner on November 2nd. On September 20, 2019, Lil Tracy released his debut album Anarchy .
