Lil von Essen (born September 10, 1963 ) is a German singer and actress .

Life

After piano lessons with Arnold Müller, singing with Dr. Jarius, Oper Frankfurt, followed by training at the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum . She learned jazz singing and improvisation a. a. with Anne Hartkamp in Cologne, classical singing a. a. with Reinhold Kohnle in Bonn, Renate Körkel, Erfurt and Margret Peckham in Frankfurt. In addition, she did an artistic and educational training in functional voice training at the Lichtenberg Institute for Singing and Instrumental Playing. Further stations were with Oliver von Essen at the New School of contemporary arts, New York in the field of jazz and improvisation, repertoire studies in musicals and jazz with Thomas Hertl in Munich.

Her artistic career includes projects from a wide variety of areas: scenic readings, dubbing for radio and television, various film roles, theater engagements, etc. a. in Essen, Düsseldorf, concert activity as a classical soprano in the field of oratorio, lied; various pop-rock and jazz projects, Brazilian music and tango projects.

In addition to her concert activities, Lil von Essen teaches at music schools. She gives workshops and private singing and speaking lessons as well as performance, band and singer formation coaching, among others Cashma Hoody , Harmful, Nungo, and she also offers voice training for choirs.

Lil is the daughter of the musician Reimer von Essen and the visual artist Beate von Essen . Her brother is the jazz pianist Oliver von Essen.
