Lilius is an impact crater to the south of the front of the moon , southeast of Maginus crater and northwest of Jacobi . The rim of the crater is eroded, the inside with a central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian physician Aloisius Lilius .
