Lil Green

Lillian Green (born December 22, 1919 in Mississippi , † April 14, 1954 in Chicago , Illinois ), known as Lil Green , was an American blues singer.

In the 1930s, Lil Green moved to Chicago, where she performed on guitar with Big Bill Broonzy . In 1940 they had a hit in the Billboard Top 30 for Bluebird Records with “Romance in the Dark” after the band leader Larry Clinton had previously recorded a version of this composition. He was later picked up by Billie Holiday as well. In 1941 “ Why Don't You Do Right? “Which was later re-recorded by Peggy Lee . She recorded "Running Around in Circles" / "My Be-Bop Daddy" for Aladdin Records . In October 1942 Green had a hit in the new "Harlem Hit Parade" (the forerunner of the R&B charts) with “Let's Be Friends”.

In the next few years she was a successful club singer and performed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Lil Green died in 1954 at the age of only 34 years of pneumonia .
