The Lincoln Sea is an arm of the Arctic Ocean north of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and Greenland . It is connected to Baffin Bay via the Nares Strait . It extends south of an imaginary line from Cape Columbia in the west (northernmost point of Canada) to Cape Morris Jesup in the east (northernmost point of Greenland). The Wandelsee connects to the east . The marine area thus delimited covers an area of ​​around 64,000 km².

In the 19th century , the beginning of the ice-free zone of the Arctic Ocean was assumed in the Lincoln Sea . It was named by Adolphus Greely , who drove it during his polar expedition from 1881–1884 . Namesake is Robert Todd Lincoln , the first son of the 16th President of the United States , Abraham Lincoln , and then Secretary of War of the United States .
