Ippolito I. d'Este (born March 20, 1479 in Ferrara ; † September 3, 1520 ibid) was a son of Ercole I. d'Este , Duke of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio, and brother of Isabella d'Este (1474 -1539), Beatrice d'Este (1475-1497) and Alfonso I. d'Este (1476-1534).

At the age of seven he was appointed Archbishop of Gran by King Matthias Corvinus, at the age of 14 (1493) he was named Cardinal of Santa Lucia in Selci , and at the age of 17 he was Archbishop of Milan . He exchanged his archbishop's seat of Gran with Tamás Bakócz and became Bishop of Erlau (1497–1520). He was also Archbishop of Capua (from 1502) and Bishop of Ferrara (from 1503).

Ippolito I. d'Este is dedicated to Ludovico Ariosto's work Orlando Furioso .
