The Wandel Sea (International is next to the name change Sea also the name McKinley Sea in use) is a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean north east of Greenland . In the south it is bounded by the Nordostrundingen and the Greenland Sea , with which it is connected by the Fram Strait . In the east it extends to the north coast of Svalbard and in the west to Cape Morris Jesup in the Greenlandic Pearyland , where the Lincoln Sea joins. The east-west extension is around 800 kilometers. The Wandelsee is covered by pack ice almost all year round .

The Wandelsee was discovered in 1907 by the Danmark Expedition led by Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen and named after one of their advisors, the Danish hydrograph Carl Frederik Wandel . Johan Peter Koch crossed it with the dog sledge between Cape Prins Knud in Kronprinz-Christian-Land and Cape Eiler Rasmussen in Pearyland .

Station Nord , the northernmost military station of the Danish Armed Forces, is located on the coast of the Wandelsee .
