Linda Henry

Linda Henry (born January 1, 1963 in the London borough of Peckham ) is a British actress .

life and career

Linda Henry played in the youth theater of the Old Vic from the age of 16, and a year later she began her acting studies at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art . In addition to theater appearances, she took on her first minor roles on television in the 1980s. From 1991 to 1992 she played the role of prostitute Lorraine Salter in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders . Even afterwards, the blonde actress often played hardened or fiery women who come from simple or problematic backgrounds.

Henry took her first major movie role in 1996 as a single mother in the coming-out film Beautiful Thing . This performance earned her a nomination for the Chlotrudis Award for Best Actress . From 1999 to 2003 she played the prison inmate Yvonne Atkins in the ITV series Bad Girls for five seasons until her character was murdered . She has been back in front of the camera for EastEnders since 2006 : In almost 1200 episodes so far (as of August 2018), she played the belligerent bartender Shirley Carter .

Henry has been married to Stavros Valiris since July 1992 and they have one daughter. She was charged with racially insulting a guard in London in September 2014, pleaded not guilty and was acquitted in 2015.
