Lindau is a desert north of the central Hessian town of Amöneburg in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district .

The place was first mentioned around 1248 as Lindowe , at that time the tithe belonged to the ore monastery Mainz . At that time, the Wasechenmühle existed not far from the settlement .

In 1343 a chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene was built above the village, now called Lindauwe or Lindaw . Under the Mainz bishop Gerlach von Nassau , the decade of 1346/1353 went to the parish church in Amöneburg.

The place was last mentioned in 1358 as Lindinouwe , and the settlement probably fell into desolation before the end of the century. Today only the Magdalenenkapelle, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and rebuilt in the 19th century, stands on the site . In addition, the corridor is named Am Linnauer Weg ; in Amöneburg there is the Lindauer Tor .
