The Linden-Dahlhauser swimming club 1921 eV with around 750 members is the second largest swimming club in Bochum today . Organized in the Swim Association Südwestfalen eV, the association offers competitive swimming, mass sports and a swimming school for children.

history

It was founded in 1921 when the offices of Linden and Dahlhausen were merged to form the Linden-Dahlhausen community as part of an administrative reform. The club, which is based directly on the Ruhr, was originally founded as a water sports club and was also named that way. In addition to the swimmers, he also included rowers and canoeists. In the course of its establishment, the association received approval from the association waterworks to use the Ruhr above the weir, which still exists today, as a swimming lane. In-house, the association built a boat shed, a starting bridge, a turning mark and a 3-meter diving platform, thus establishing the first “open-air river swimming pool” in the south-west of Bochum. In 1934 the clubhouse and swimming lane were completely renovated and enlarged. In the same year, the association waterworks canceled the lease contract for the site in order to enlarge the municipal bathing establishment that had been built in the meantime.

The Bochum Südbad has been the home of the LDSV since 1968. As a result, the athletic ascent began, which - as part of the SG Bochum-Wattenscheid , which was co-founded by the LDSV - led to German championships and Olympic participation by LDSV athletes. Mark Warnecke from Bochum, who later started for SG Essen , is one of the most successful and well-known swimmers.

Today the focus of the association is more in the area of targeted child and youth development. This includes competitive sports as well as popular sports and the continuous implementation of swimming courses.
