The Linde plant at Castle of Neuenstadt in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg is a historical park in the High Gate tower in which and April 1945 an old, allegedly millennial Linde was the new city the nickname in Linde was. The old linden tree was destroyed towards the end of the Second World War, but the complex is still covered by the branches of the younger trees that rest on a supporting structure supported by ornate stone pillars.

history

It is believed that the linden tree was an old judicial linden tree , which was surrounded by stone pillars to carry the branches, which nobles and citizens have donated since the Middle Ages. They show the coats of arms of the donors, including those of the Ehrenberg , Berlichingen and Gemmingen manors . The rhyme zu Neuenstadt a linden statute that has 67 columns was already known in the 16th century. The walling of the complex goes back to the year 1558 and was arranged by Duke Christoph von Württemberg, whose name and coat of arms is carved into the arched entrance portal of the complex. To the left of the portal there is a stone inscription that warns of damage to the system under threat of chopping off your hand: This Lindstedt is in God's hands, who do no, who scratches or writes a Seul or a mischief. the hot lost a hand .

In 1606, the Neuenstadt schoolmaster Jakob Frischlin described the tree as so wide and thick that nobody can find anything like it in Europe, which branches are lying around on 160 pillars. Some branches are as thick as a large tree. Each branch has 30 paces to the trunk and the trunk is 30 cubits thick .

In the early 20th century, only one of the three peak branches of the linden tree remained. The trunk had a circumference of 15 meters near the ground. The branches running out to the side were already very damaged, partly rotten, partly lined with materials for stabilization. The tree was already described as a venerable ruin in a 1917 publication by the Heilbronner Verkehrs-Verein . At that time, young trees had already been raised to complement the canopy of leaves that had become light.

During fighting towards the end of the Second World War, the tether ropes of the old linden tree were damaged; she then fell victim to a thunderstorm. The younger linden trees and stone columns with ornate coats of arms have been preserved as an impressive arcade. The historic stone pillars were renovated from 1962 to 1981. Instead of the old linden tree in the center of the complex, a new linden tree was planted.
