history

In 1688, Count Georg August von Nassau-Idstein granted the pharmacist Heinrich Wilhelm Abel from Bobenhausen the privilege to set up a pharmacy in Idstein. In addition, he received the monopoly for the sale of spices, tree oil and sugar.

In 1731 the regent Charlotte Amalie renewed the privilege in favor of Heinrich Wilhelm Abel's widow. In 1730, their son, Joh. Andreas Abel, had unsuccessfully asked the Count's government for permission to have their own pharmacy in Idstein. He only became a pharmacist after his mother's death. In 1745 Joh. Andreas Abel died and his widow sold the pharmacy in 1747 to the pharmacist Karl Bernhard Koch from Osnabrück. The pharmacy must have been in poor condition at this point. The purchase price was only 440 guilders for the privilege plus the value of the furnishings and goods, which can be determined by an expert.

In 1779 the pharmacy became the property of Karl Bernhard Koch's son-in-law, the pharmacist Clamor Philipp Lönig, whose privilege was renewed in 1780 by Prince Karl Wilhelm von Usingen-Nassau . The son Karl Löning came from the first marriage of Clamor Philipp Lönig . In 1819 he carried out the well-known assassination attempt on the Nassau government president Carl Friedrich Emil von Ibell .

After Lönig's death in 1800, his widow married the pharmacist Georg Martin Herbst, who in 1801 received the privilege of Prince Carl Wilhelm. With the establishment of the Duchy of Nassau , the privilege was renewed in 1806. On the basis of the medical edict of 1818 , Georg Martin Herbst was appointed official pharmacist of the Idstein office. Due to the poor condition of the pharmacy, there were many conflicts with the supervisory authorities and Herbst had to hand over the operation of the pharmacy to a temporary agent. In 1832 he sold the pharmacy to Heinrich Lindenborn, the provisional agent of the Camberg local pharmacy , at a price of 15,000 guilders. In 1833 he was appointed official pharmacist. Since then, the pharmacy has remained in the possession of the Lindenborn family and was therefore called the Lindenapotheke.

Former pharmacy building

The Lindenborn family's former linden pharmacy is located in Weiherwiese 16. It is an elongated, representative building from the late 18th century with a mansard roof that towers over the neighboring buildings. The high ground floor was previously accessed with a two-flight stone staircase, the entrance with stairs was later moved inside. The profiled door jambs with the sign “Apotheke” remained, however. The structural framework of the house has K-shaped corner struts and was originally plastered. I continue the five regular window axes in gable dormers. Next to it is the overbuilt courtyard gate with gate.
