General information

The school has a school partnership with Iona College, which is located in nearby Havelock North. Lindisfarne College operates a house system with the four houses Aidan , Cuthbert , Oswald and Durham , which are derived from the history of Lindisfarne Monastery , after which the school is named. In order to achieve a certain tradition of the houses , pupils who already had relatives (father or brother etc.) in the school come to their former house. Otherwise, they will be evenly distributed.

The houses regularly compete against each other and receive so-called house points when they win . The house with the most points at the end of the year is the winner of the "Gahan Shield". About half of the students are boarding school students who have to pay NZD 15,500 (approx. 8,680 euros) school fees per year. English, Maori and French are taught at the school. The principal of the school has been Ken MacLeod since 2010.

history

Lindisfarne College was founded in 1953 by the Herrick family, who also donated the land on which the school is built. The school started with 33 students in the first year, but has grown rapidly since then, with more than 450 students now being taught (data from 2008). In recent years structural changes have been made to the school, such as the cafeteria, the sports hall and the music grand piano. Furthermore, a new area was built with an auditorium and new classrooms for the subject "oral communication".

activities

  • Joint Projects: Lindisfarne has an exchange of activities with Hastings Girls High School. With this school, Lindisfarne College does joint music and theater projects. In addition, Lindisfarne's partner school, Iona College, is involved in various theater and music projects.
  • Academic Achievement: Lindisfarne College places a high value on academic achievement and progresses quickly with the subject matter. As a result, students of a level have the opportunity to have at least two subjects ahead of other students of the same level.
  • Christian orientation: School worship is compulsory for all students, regardless of the grade. During the week school services are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and each student must attend three Sunday services per year.
  • Sports: Lindisfarne College also places great emphasis on physical activity. Every student must take part in sports activities around the school. Some former students are actively involved in New Zealand. Furthermore, a large number of the students have participated and are still participating in junior national teams.
