Lindroos double star

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lindroos binary stars are visual binary stars with an early main sequence star of spectral type B and a late secondary component of spectral type F, G, K or M.

It was named after the Swedish astronomer Peter Lindroos, who compiled the first catalog in 1986. The secondary component of the Lindroos double stars is of particular interest, as some of these stars are in what is known as the post-T Tauri star (PTTS) phase. A study in 2004 confirmed 8 candidates.

Since the original Lindroos catalog is a collection of visual binary stars , not all systems are gravitationally bound binary stars, but in some cases optical binary stars as well . In order to confirm the young age of the secondary component, however, it is necessary to show the gravitational bond of the double stars because only then are both components with a high probability of being the same age. The primary component with spectral type B cannot be very old (<150 million years), since these stars develop away from the main sequence within a few million years .
