The lingua geographica or map tongue is a harmless change in the surface of the tongue . This is a constitutional anomaly . It arises from the rejection of the epithelium of the filiform papillae on the surface of the tongue ( papillae filiformes ) and is characterized by round or garland-shaped light, red or pink-colored spots with gray-white edges.
