Linh Dinh ( Vietnamese Đinh Linh , * 1963 in Saigon , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese-American author, translator and photographer. He was Picador Guest Professor at the Institute for American Studies at the University of Leipzig in the 2015/2016 winter semester.

Life

Dinh emigrated to the USA in 1975 and has lived in Philadelphia since 1982. There he studied painting at the University of the Arts and was active in literature and art after graduating from Philadelphia. In 1993 he received a scholarship from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. From 1999 to 2001 he lived for two years in his native Saigon and began to dedicate himself increasingly to the translation of literature, both from English into Vietnamese and vice versa. After a brief return to the USA, he moved to Certaldo , Italy for two years at the invitation of the International Parliament of Writers in 2002 . In 2005 he was a David Wong Fellow at the University of East Anglia in Norwich , England . Linh Dinh was also a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

Linh Dinh's work comprises two collections of short stories:

  • Fake House (2000, Seven Stories Press)
  • Blood and Soap (Seven Stories Press, 2004).

He has also published five volumes of poetry:

  • All Around What Empties Out (Tinfish, 2003)
  • American Tatts (Chax, 2005)
  • Borderless Bodies (Factory School, 2006)
  • Jam Alerts (Chax, 2007)
  • Some Kind of Cheese Orgy (Chax, 2009).

His first novel Love Like Hate (Seven Stories Press) was published in October 2010.
