LinuxTLE (pronounced: Linux Talee) is a Thai localized Linux distribution that is created by the Thai government agency NECTEC , a division of the Thai Ministry of Science and Technology . TLE stands for Thai Language Extension . The pronunciation “Talee” is an echo of the Thai word ทะเล (the sea). Accordingly, the logo of the distribution is a dolphin jumping out of the sea . As is usual with other Linux distributions, there is also a live CD in the form of OpenTLE , with which the system can be extensively tested before installation and which is also sold by NECTEC.

Structure of the distribution

LinuxTLE was originally based on Red Hat , but is now based on Ubuntu . The live CD OpenTLE 7.10 is based on Knoppix and Berry Linux . GNOME is used as the desktop . Most of the programs included are translated into Thai. Linux / OpenTLE 5.5 from April 2004 contains the usual web, graphics and office programs under Linux in particular Thai TrueType Fonts, ArnThai 2.0 (a text recognition for Thai), LEXiTRON 2.0 pre2 (Thai - English dictionary) and ThaiLatex.
