Lionel Duroy de Suduiraut (born October 1, 1949 in Bizerte , Tunisia) is a French journalist and writer .

biography

Lionel Duroy comes from an impoverished French noble family. His family has advocated right-wing extremist ideas for a long time. His childhood in this environment had a strong impact on him and is a recurring theme in his novels.

Lionel Duroy initially worked as a supplier, courier driver and craftsman, later he worked as a journalist for the French newspapers ' Liberation ' and 'L'Événement du jeudi'. Since the publication of his first novel in 1990, he has devoted himself exclusively to writing, mainly with an autobiographical focus. In addition, he is the biographer of some famous people such as B. Nana Mouskouri .

He has published more than 12 novels (some of which were made into films), but also essays on the Balkan war and other crisis areas. In 2012 his novel L'hiver des hommes was awarded the Prix ​​Renaudot , and a year later the Joseph Kessel Prize. It was published for the first time in German by Edition Contra-Bass in autumn 2017.

His autobiographical novel Le Chagrin received the Grand prix Marie Claire du roman d'émotion 2010 and the Prix Marcel Pagnol in the same year and was published for the first time in German by Edition Contra-Bass in autumn 2014 under the title Der Kummer .

Lionel Duroy was married twice and has four children. He lives in the south of France.
