Liparos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liparos ( ancient Greek Λίπαρος ) is in the Greek Mythogie a Ausone and founder Lipari town on the same island . After Diodorus he was the son of King Auson and was expelled from Italy by his brothers. With his companions and a few warships he fled to the island of Lipari, which was later named after him, settled there with his Ausonian followers and founded the city of Lipari. Much later, Aiolos , the son of Hippotes , settled with companions on the island and married Liparos' daughter Kyane. Since Liparos longed to return to mainland Italy, Aiolos helped his father-in-law gain territories in the Sorrento area , over which Liparos became king, while Aiolos took control of Lipari. Long after his death, Liparos is said to have been worshiped like a hero near Sorrento .
