Lipogramma is a genus of small marine fish found in the tropical, western Atlantic.

features

Lipogramma species are two to a maximum of seven centimeters long, have a stocky body and are generally brightly colored or striped in black and white. Characteristic features of the genus are 12 or 13 hard rays in the dorsal fin and three in the anal fin. The pelvic fins are supported by a hard fin ray and five soft rays. There are 26 scales in a middle row along the sides of the body. A sideline is missing. The gill cover is without spines. Both jaws and palatal and ploughshare bones are dentate. The caudal fin is rounded or slightly indented. The body scales are ctenoid .
