Lipomastia (from the Greek λίπος (lípos): fat and μαστός (mastós): breast, nipple) is a form of pseudogynecomastia that occurs in obese men. This is an enlargement of the breast due to increased fat tissue , but without enlargement of the breast gland .

It is differentiated from gynecomastia by palpation (palpation of the glandular tissue) and ultrasonographically ( sonography of the mammary gland). No palpable glandular tissue is detectable in lipomasty.

In obese adolescents, differentiating between lipomastia and gynecomastia can be difficult; a mixed type, the so-called lipogynecomastia, can also occur .

Pseudogynecomastia is not only caused by fat accumulation, but can also be due to submamillary (under the nipple ) hematomas , lymphangiomas ( angiomas of the vascular system) or lipomas (regional adipose tissue tumors).
