from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lisa Beck (born December 15, 1927 in Augsburg ) is a German graphic artist and professor emeritus for type design.

Life

Lisa Beck studied from 1947 to 1952 at the Werkkunstschule Augsburg under Eugen Nerdinger and then worked as a freelance graphic designer. In 1960 she returned to the Werkkunstschule as a lecturer - initially part-time and later full-time. Working with Eugen Nerdinger, whose closest collaborator she became, resulted in several standard works on font design. After the Werkkunstschule was incorporated into the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (now Augsburg University of Applied Sciences ) in 1971 , Lisa Beck was appointed professor for graphic design with a focus on font design. She taught there until she left university in 1990. A whole generation of typeface designers emerged from her teaching. In a detailed article on her 90th birthday, the Augsburg general described Lisa Beck as a “legendary design professor”.
