Lisa D. , bourgeois Elisabeth Prantner (born April 1956 in Klagenfurt , Carinthia ) is an Austrian fashion designer , fashion performance artist and sustainability fashion activist.

Live and act

Elisabeth Prantner grew up in Carinthia and moved to Graz in Styria in the late 1970s . She studied mathematics , art and theater at the University of Graz and worked as a teacher. Because she was asked about the costumes she had created at the theater performances, she decided in 1984 to work as a designer. After a one year stay in the USA , she returned to Austria and commuted between Styria and Berlin before finally moving to Berlin in 1989. In the early 1990s, Prantner was one of the first artists to set up a studio and under the Lisa D. label in the Hackesche Höfe and to revitalize the area of the courtyards in Berlin-Mitte. Their main location was here until 2015. Then she moved to the Berlin-Schöneberg district , where she runs her change studio, which was created in 2011, Until it falls from my body . Behind this is the artistic idea and philosophy of artistically repairing and maintaining an existing favorite piece of clothing, changing, upgrading and redesigning it. Prantner was thus one of the pioneers in the fashion industry who opposed the throw-away mentality. Lisa D. calls this "high-tailoring, unique, personalizing" and aims to combine this with "design and aesthetic wit".

Since 1984 Prantner has been creating fashion shows , performances and exhibitions in which she tells stories using the language of fashion . Some of her early productions were created in cooperation with hat designer Fiona Bennett . Lisa D. deals with social issues with the help of fashion and costumes. This includes critical questioning of war, armament and disarmament (1995), by using worn-out military uniforms of the Russian army in a fashionable and artistic way, or in performances such as Global Concern (2004/2005) and Boat People (2007), in which they focus on economic processes of the globalized world.

In June 2019 she published a book in which she looks back on 30 years as a fashion designer and fashion performance artist.

Awards

For her sustainable fashion project and change studio Until it falls away , she was awarded the Federal Ecodesign Award of the German Federal Environment Ministry and the Federal Environment Agency in 2012. In 2017 she received the Green Buddy Award for this and in 2018 she was awarded the Spitz Nadel and the Re-Use Prize of the City of Berlin.
