Lisandro de la Torre (born December 6, 1868 in Rosario , † January 5, 1939 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine lawyer and politician. He was a major advocate of women's suffrage in Argentina

biography

De la Torre graduated in 1890 as a lawyer. In 1897 he resigned from the Unión Cívica Radical . Together with Florencio Sánchez , who worked as the editorial secretary, de la Torre founded the newspaper La República . In the department of San Lorenzo (Santa Fe) de la Torre was elected provincial MP in 1911. A year later he became the national MP of Argentina . De la Torre belonged to the Partido Demócrata Progresista (PDP). In 1932 he was elected senator. In 1933 he was instrumental in introducing the right to vote for women.
In 1939 de la Torre committed suicide in the federal capital. The urn with his ashes was buried at El Salvador Cemetery in Rosario.
