The department of San Lorenzo is located in the southeast of the province of Santa Fe in central Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province. It belongs to the metropolitan area of ​​Rosario.

It is bordered to the north by the departments of Iriondo and San Jerónimo , to the east by the province of Entre Ríos and the department of Rosario , to the south by the department of Constitución and to the west by the department of Caseros .

The capital of the department of San Lorenzo is the eponymous San Lorenzo . The distance to Rosario in the south is 24 km and to the provincial capital Santa Fe in the north 150 km.

history

San Lorenzo is historical territory for the Argentines because the Battle of San Lorenzo took place here, in which the grenadier regiment on horseback under the command of the then Coronel José de San Martín was baptized by fire. At the same time, this battle was the start of the War of Independence from Spain and the only battle that San Martín commanded on Argentine soil.
