The General Obligado Department is located in the northeast of the Santa Fe Province in central Argentina and is one of 19 administrative units in the province.
It borders in the north on the province of Chaco , in the east, separated by the Río Paraná , on the province of Corrientes , in the south on the department of San Javier and in the west on the department of Vera .
