The Lissominae are a worldwide subfamily of the click beetles (Elateridae). It includes around 150 species in 10 genera .
Taxonomy and systematics
According to an expanded definition according to Leschen, Beutel & Lawrence (2010), the subfamily comprises the following four tribes :
- Lissomini Laporte, 1835
- Oestodini Hyslop, 1917
- Protelaterini Schwarz, 1902
- Australians Calder & Lawrence, 1993
The genus Oestodes is usually considered a monophyletic group within the Protelaterini. The similarities of the latter without the genus Oestodes with the tribe Lissomini are mainly limited to features of the larvae, such as the indented clypeolabrum, a large, complex retinaculum and the formation of special movable thorns on the back. Crowson (1961) suggested that the genus Drapetes be placed within the click beetle family, but left the genus Lissomus in the family Throscidae , whereas Burakowski (1975) placed in the family Lissomidae. Costa et al. (1988) assumed on the basis of the characteristics of the larvae a close relationship between Lissomus and the genus Semiotus . The species Neocrowsonia viatoricus , which is strongly adapted to the way of life with termites , was separated from the subfamily and was placed in the family Throscidae by Kistner & Abdel-Galil (1986) based on a reference from Crowsons. Crowson's reference was probably based on the presence of well-developed tarsal lamellae, very similar to those of the Lissomini tribe.
