This list contains an overview of the locomotives with diesel engines manufactured by ALCO or MLW at the American Locomotive Company (ALCO or ALCo) and its subsidiary and successor company Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) . The electrical equipment was supplied by General Electric , so from 1940 to 1953 the vehicles were marketed under the name "ALCo-GE".
Already between 1924 and 1930, ALCO, together with the diesel engine manufacturer Ingersoll-Rand and General Electric, produced the first commercially successful diesel locomotives in North America . These can be found in Ingersoll-Rand's list of diesel locomotives .
