Coat of arms of Mühlhausen / Thuringia

The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the city of Muehlhausen / Thuringia awards. According to the honorary order of the city of Mühlhausen from 2006, the mayor, on a decision of the city council, awards them to living natural personalities “who have made a special contribution to the city of Mühlhausen and the well-being of its residents”. The mayor and the parliamentary groups of the city council are entitled to make proposals. Those honored in this way are entered in the city of Mühlhausen's Golden Book. Honorary citizenship does not bring material benefits; Honorary citizens are only invited to a reception in the town hall by the mayor on their 75th, 80th, 90th and 100th birthday. “Because of unworthy conduct of the honored person”, the appointment as an honorary citizen can be revoked. Honorary citizenship expires at the latest with the death of the recipient.
