Eberhard Ladwig (born  July 25, 1923 in Erfurt , †  August 26, 2006 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ) was a German botanist . From 1950 he worked at the Pedagogical Institute in Mühlhausen and from 1969 at the Erfurt / Mühlhausen University of Education . From 1969 to 1988 he was a university lecturer in biology there until 1988.

Life

Eberhard Ladwig was born in Erfurt in 1923 as the son of a teacher and attended schools in Tottleben , Gotha (grammar school with boarding school) and Bad Langensalza (grammar school). After being a prisoner of war, he took a job as a new teacher in Thamsbrück . As early as 1950 he moved to the Pedagogical Institute in Mühlhausen / Thuringia at the invitation of the then director Hans Fischer, and since 1969 he has taught at the Erfurt-Mühlhausen University of Education. In 1965 Ladwig received his doctorate (Dr. rer. Nat.) And in 1969 was appointed professor of biology.

Ladwig supported numerous botanical gardens in Thuringia and around the world with his specialist knowledge and, in addition to the collections in his own garden and on the premises of the Pedagogical Institute / later Pedagogical University, tried to set up a publicly accessible botanical garden in Mühlhausen from 1963. Unfortunately he was denied this success. Significant parts of his extensive collections were taken over by the city of Bad Langensalza at the beginning of this millennium after the garden areas were abandoned by the University of Education and then the urban alternative areas by the decision-makers of the city of Mühlhausen at the time. The private collection continues to exist in Mühlhausen under the care of the heirs.

For his tireless commitment to the interests of the city of Mühlhausen, Ladwig was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Mühlhausen in 2002.
