The county of Delmenhorst was independent at different times and was ruled by branch lines of the Earl's House of Oldenburg . The county had the following regents:

Older line Delmenhorst

  • 1278–1304: Otto II. Von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst (around 1238–1304) ∞ Oda von Sternberg
  • 1304–1347: joint government of Johann I (1294–1347) ∞ Kunigunde von Wölpe and Christian (I) the Elder of Oldenburg-Delmenhorst (1294–1355) ∞ Elisabeth Princess of Rostock
  • 1347–1355: Christian (I.) the Elder from Oldenburg-Delmenhorst
  • 1355-1374: Otto III. von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst (around 1337-1374) - for a time probably together with Christian (II.) the Younger from Oldenburg-Delmenhorst (1335-1367)
  • 1374–1380: Guardian government by Heilwig von Hoya for her son Otto IV.
  • 1380–1418: Otto IV. Von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst (1367–1418) ∞ Richarda von Tecklenburg
  • 1418–1436 (including 1420–1436 as fiefdom of the Archdiocese of Bremen): Nikolaus von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst († 1447)

In 1436 Nikolaus signed the county over to his Oldenburg relatives.

Middle line Delmenhorst

In 1464 the county was conquered after a short period of independence by Gerhard (Gerd) von Oldenburg .

Younger line Delmenhorst

After Christian's death, who left no heirs, the county fell back to the county of Oldenburg.
