Otto III. (Oldenburg-Delmenhorst)
Otto III. von Oldenburg – Delmenhorst (mentioned 1337; † 1374 ) was Count von Delmenhorst from the House of Oldenburg .
Origin and Regency
Otto's parents were Count Christian the Elder of Oldenburg – Delmenhorst (1294–1355) and his wife Elisabeth Fürstin von Rostock .
After his father's death in 1355, he apparently followed him as regent of the county of Delmenhorst. He was thus a representative of the so-called Elder Line Delmenhorst , which his grandfather Otto II had founded in 1278 when Delmenhorst was divided from the county of Oldenburg .
Together with his brothers who had entered the clergy, he sold shares in the Delmenhorst rule, which led to long-term political and military arguments after his death, which almost led to the loss of Delmenhorst to the aspiring Counts of Hoya .
At least temporarily he seems to have his cousin Christian the Younger (mentioned 1335-1367) involved in the rule.
On June 15, 1371 Otto III. Together with his brother, the Bremen canon Christian, and the Countess Heilwig von Hoya in the guardianship of his still underage grand-nephew Otto IV (1367–1418) of the Delmenhorst residence a written town charter . He followed the example of the Oldenburg counts, who had based their Oldenburg city privilege from 1345 on Bremen city law .
The successor to Otto, who died childless and apparently also unmarried, was then his great-nephew Otto IV, the descendant of Christian the Younger.
