Bent Larsen was among the world's best in the 1960s and 1970s.

The list of International Masters of 1955 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters in 1955 from the World Chess Federation FIDE . As in previous years, the award was based on the outstanding tournament and competition results of the respective players.

Since Josef Kupper's death in June 2017, none of the six honored players has been alive. As the only one of the six players, Bent Larsen later reached the grandmaster title .

Legend

The table contains the following information:

  • Name : gives the name of the player.
  • Country : The country for which the player was eligible to play in 1955.
  • Life data : states the year of birth and, if applicable, the year of death of the player.
  • GM : Indicates the year of award for players who were later promoted to grandmasters.
  • Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known).
