List of the kings of Cyrene
Cyrene was a Greek colony on the North African coast in the northeast of what is now Libya . It was founded by settlers from Thera in the 7th century BC. . Chr founded. The dates for the early years are largely conjectural, as the information on the years of reign of the rulers shows.

- Arkesilaos II. Approx. 565 / 560–555 / 550, called "the hard one"
- Battos III. approx. 555 / 550-535 / 530, called "the Lame"
- Arkesilaos III. approx. 535 / 530-520 / 515
- Battos IV. Approx. 520 / 515–465, called "the beautiful"
- Arkesilaos IV. Approx. 465 – approx. 440
These eight kings are also called battiads . Around 440 BC A revolt overthrew the monarchy of Cyrene. Arkesilaos IV. And his son Battos fled to Euhesperides , where they probably perished. Cyrene had been under Persian suzerainty since Arkesilaos III.
Alexander the Great conquered the country in 331 BC. After his death it was first administered by Ophellas and then belonged to the Ptolemaic Empire . Around 276 BC Cyrene became independent again under Magas.

249 BC Cyrene was declared a republic in 246 BC. Ptolemaic suzerainty was restored. Cyrene now occasionally got its own rulers from the Ptolemaic dynasty. In 96 BC It became a republic again, 75 BC. BC it fell to the Romans .

Mark Antony gave Cyrene in 37 BC. Back to the Ptolemies. 34 BC He raised Cleopatra Selene , his daughter with the Ptolemaic Cleopatra VII. , To be queen of Cyrene. With the conquest of Egypt by the troops of the later emperor Augustus in 30 BC. The Cyrenaica finally fell to Rome.
