power plant | Lignite was already being mined in Harbke in 1765. A briquette factory was built in 1880, and the foundation stone for the Karfwerk was laid in 1909. From 1917 the power plant supplied an area of Magdeburg, Stendal, Braunschweig and the Harz Mountains with electricity.
