The Kottmar is an extinct stratovolcano made of phonolite. The column is composed of five granite blocks from Neusalza and is around 2.80 meters high. The column is closed by a cover plate with break-off points. It is not clear whether an inscription was carved in, the existing tablet with the inscription “Station / KOTTMAR / der /Kön.Sächs. / Triangulation / 1864 ”was probably added later. The column was measured and set up by Friedrich Robert Helmert. |
