List of pastors from Veringenstadt
The city of Veringen (today Veringenstadt ) received city rights before 1250.
At first the city could not found its own parish and therefore did not have its own cemetery. The residents of the upper town up to the town hall fountain and on the Gassengraben (today Bahnhofstrasse) belonged to the Roman Catholic parish of Deutstetten and the lower town to Veringendorf .
In 1515 there were seven chaplains in Veringenstadt :
- Ursula chaplain donated in 1360
- Katharinen Chaplaincy founded in 1368
- Thomas Chaplaincy donated in 1425
- Holy Spirit Chaplain founded in 1464
- Johannis Chaplaincy founded in 1467
- Early Mass Chaplaincy founded in 1497
- Anna Chaplaincy donated in 1515
In 1811 Veringenstadt became the seat of the Veringen deanery and it was not until 1821 that St. Nicholas was elevated to a parish. The parish church of St. Nikolaus is part of the Straßberg-Veringen pastoral care unit, which is located in the Sigmaringen-Meßkirch dean's office .

1821-1834 | Joseph Sprißler | From 1821 to 1834 Joseph Sprissler from Inneringen was pastor in St. Nikolaus. He publicly acknowledged the new political views. In 1830 an investigation was initiated against him for “leading participation in the movement for the introduction of a liberal constitution in Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen”, which ended with an acquittal. In 1848 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly. Because of his political activities he lost his priesthood in 1849. |
1844-1854 | Thomas Geiselhart | From 1844 to 1850 Thomas Geiselhart was pastor in St. Nikolaus. It is said that after a funeral of a young girl who had left an illegitimate child, he asked the funeral attendees to take in the poor orphan for God's payment. However, his request was not granted. On the spur of the moment he took the child into the rectory. This experience certainly contributed to the fact that he later founded the Nazareth House for orphans in Sigmaringen. |
