In February 1849 the office was suspended by the archbishop's ordinariate in Freiburg im Breisgau due to his activity as a member of the Frankfurt parliament and his funeral speech for Robert Blum on November 27, 1848 in Sulz am Neckar . However, he later resumed church service.

Sprißler also worked as an employee for various magazines (for example: "Freymüthige Blätter für Deutsche" and others). During his time as a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly from May 18, 1848 to September 11, 1848, he did not belong to any parliamentary group. His successor was Carl Otto Würth .

He is buried in the Heilig-Kreuz cemetery in Hechingen, next to his companion and friend Josef Blumenstetter . The tombs resemble each other like twins and mean to the visitor that these two men were like brothers to each other for a lifetime. On the gravestone of Joseph Sprißler is the inscription "Blessed are those who suffer persecution for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven".
