The place was first mentioned in 748. The church is documented in 790. The late Gothic three-aisled east-facing hall church, built from 1488 to 1516, under a gable roof with a west tower is surrounded by a cemetery with a high cemetery wall.
The former sexton house and later poor house was saved from deterioration with the primary school director Josef Neureiter and a local museum was set up in 1966.

The branch church of St. Margaretha in the parish of St. Margarethen is a late Gothic single-nave church with a ribbed vault and a remarkable Baroque outer pulpit with a wide baroque canopy on the gable facade.
