List of the Epirotic tribes

The list of Epirus tribes represents the tribes that in the ancient times , the ancient region of Epirus populated. The inhabitants were besides the main peoples, the Chaoni , Thesprotern and Molossern , other peoples. According to Strabo, Theopomp counted 14, Thucydides six, Strabo himself seven and Karl Friedrich Merleker 36 Epirotic peoples, who can be classified as follows: The Chaoners belonged to:

• Dexarians or Dassaretes
• Encheliers
• Sylioner

The Molossians included:

• Arktanoi
• Aphidants
• Athamanians or Athamans (see Athamanien )
• Atintans Atintans or Atintons
• * Dodonians or Donettines
• Genoeans
• Hypälochier
• Oresteans , Orestes or Orestes

The thesprotists included:

• Aegestians
• Amynter
• Autariats
• Chauner
• Eliner
• Cassopeans or Cassopeans
• Kelether
• Paroraeans or Paraveans
• Prassäber
• Tripolisser

Other Epirotic peoples were:

• Amymner
• Argyrinians
• Arctans
• Plareans

• Elymiotes or Elmiotes (which were later included in Macedonia)
