Heinrich Wilhelm Bensen

Heinrich Wilhelm Bensen (born September 12, 1798 in Erlangen , † January 10, 1863 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) was a German teacher and historian .

Life

Born as the son of a university professor, Bensen studied Protestant theology in Erlangen, Halle and Berlin after attending the Erlangen grammar school . In 1816 he was one of the founders of the Teutonia Erlangen fraternity and in 1819 he became a member of the Old Halle fraternity Germania . In addition to his studies in Halle, he worked as a teacher at the Franckeschen Foundation . In 1820 he became a high school teacher in Erlangen. He was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . Bensen belonged to the youth union . In 1822 he became sub-principal and high school teacher in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In 1832 he took part in the Hambach Festival . In 1848 he became a full member of the Academy of Sciences in Munich . He was also a member of a Masonic Lodge .
