This is a list of Corrales de comedias in Spain . A corral de comedias (literally a "theater courtyard") is a type of Spanish open-air theater in the courtyard of a block. In Spanish, all secular plays were called comedias , which encompassed three genres: tragedy , drama and comedy . In the Spanish Golden Age , the Corrales were popular venues that accompanied the amazing rise of Spanish theater. The Corral de comedias of Almagro in the Spanish province of Ciudad Real in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha , built at the beginning of the 17th century, is the only one in Spain where performances are still held. Today only a sign reminds of the Teatro de la Cruz , the most important of various venues of this type in Madrid . The following list does not claim to be complete or up-to-date.
