List of ships with the name Walther Herwig
Walther Herwig is a traditional name of German research vessels of fisheries research . The namesake of the ships is the sponsor and doyen of marine research Walther Herwig (1838–1912), an administrative lawyer in the Reich services, who has rendered outstanding services to German deep-sea fishing and in particular to the supply of fishermen and seamen and their families who work there . The fish steamer President Herwig was named after him and was the first ship in the new deep-sea fishing fleet to be lost off Iceland in 1898 .
