The Damen Shipyards Group is a Dutch shipbuilding company with locations around the world.
history
The Damen shipyard was founded in Hardinxveld-Giessendam in 1927 by Jan and Marius Damen. Since then, the shipyard has established itself as the largest shipbuilding company in the Netherlands.
In 1967 the shipyard management was taken over by Kommer Damen, the son of Jan Damen. He introduced the modularity principle in the shipyard, in which the outer shell of the ships was manufactured in a standardized manner, with the interior fittings then being adapted to the customer's needs.
At the same time, the shipyard expanded and is now active at twenty locations in the Netherlands, the main location being in Gorinchem . The company also has subsidiaries in Belgium , Brazil , the People's Republic of China , France , Indonesia , Qatar , Cuba , Poland , Romania , Sweden , Singapore , South Africa , Turkey , Ukraine , the United Arab Emirates , the United Kingdom and Vietnam .
