The Damen Combi Freighter 4600 is a series cargo ship from the Scheepswerf Damen Hoogezand shipyard in Foxhol . The units built for the Moormerländer shipping company buoys are also referred to as the Oslo type by the owner . The hulls for the ships were created at the shipyard Santierul Naval Galati in Galați , which initially cooperated with the Damen Shipyards Group , which was integrated into the Damen Shipyards Group in 1999 as Damen Shipyards Galati and the SevMash Predpriyatiye shipyard in Severodvinsk . The Scheepswerf Damen Hoogezand, which completed the series' units, was sold by the Damen Shipyards Group to the Waterhuizen Shipyard in 2003 .

The coasters of the Combi Freighter 4600 type are designed as multi-purpose dry cargo ships with a deckhouse far aft and a long hold without their own cargo gear . The type has a fixed deckhouse and a mostly box-shaped hold with a volume of 5718 m 3 , in which two movable bulkheads can be used. The continuous hatch is closed by pontoon hatch covers, which can be opened and moved individually by a hatch car. The hold is 62 meters long, 11 meters wide and 8.43 meters high. The tank cover , which can be loaded with up to 18 t / m², is reinforced for cargo handling and the transport of heavy goods . A total of 213 20-foot containers ( TEU ) can be transported, 117 TEU in the hold and a further 96 TEU on the hatch covers. With a homogeneous load with 14-tonne 20-foot containers, the transport of up to 156 TEU is possible.
The ships of the series are powered by a Deutz - MWM six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the type TBD 645 L6 with an output of around 2220 kW, which acts via a reduction gear on a variable-pitch propeller and a shaft generator with 750 KVA output. There are also two Scania DS9 auxiliary diesels, each with 154 kW output, and a Valmet 420DSG emergency diesel with 70 kW output. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction. The ships have a bow with a bulbous bow that falls slightly above the waterline .
The units of the Combi Freighter 4600 series are mainly used in small and medium-sized journeys in the transport of containers . However, they are approved for worldwide travel and are also suitable for the transport of bulk goods, piece goods and smaller project loads.
Equipping the Fehn Pollux with a Flettner rotor
The Fehn Pollux , built in 1996, was equipped with an 18 meter high Flettner rotor on the forecastle in 2018 . This system, installed after two years of development, provided more thrust than the main drive of the propeller during measurement runs under optimal conditions. According to the evaluation of the measurement results, depending on the speed of the ship, between 10 and 20 percent fuel can be saved.
