List of restricted substances

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When listing substances with restricted use ( English Restricted Substances List , RSL), a list of substances with restricted use is created. Various governments, industry associations and companies have created RSLs, particularly for the manufacture of apparel and textiles , in response to the growing public concern about product safety and environmental protection . RSL list chemicals and substances that pose risks to people and the environment. Their use in production is either completely prohibited or permitted with restrictions. The specifications of the individual RSL differ e.g. T. considerably. Manufacturers therefore usually receive the RSL from buyers in the offer phase. In this way, you can include additional work due to changes in the production processes or the dyes used in the calculation . The most common RSLs are stored on specialized B2B procurement platforms.

Chemicals and substances of limited use frequently used in the textile and clothing industry are e.g. B .:

history

The first RSL was created in 2007 by the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAfA), which has been reviewed and revised every six months since then. The EU chemicals regulation (REACH regulation) also contains a list of restricted substances in Annex XVII, which has been continuously developed since 2009. In addition, numerous companies such as B. Puma and Nike as well as initiatives such as AFIRM , of which Adidas is a member, have created their own lists of restricted substances.

Manufacturing Restricted Substance List

In contrast to the RSL, a Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) not only lists harmful substances that may be in the finished product, but also those that may be used during production and released into the environment.
