Literarischer Handweiser was a Catholic magazine founded in 1862, which appeared twice a month and reviewed new publications in general fiction as well as specialist publications. The publisher was initially Franz Hülskamp , it was first published by the publishing house of Theissingschen Buchhandlung in Münster , then by Herder in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Under the title Literarischer Handweiser, initially for Catholic Germany , the magazine was published from 1862 (previously a sample number 1861) to 1889 (issue 28), then as a Literarischer Handweiser, initially for all Catholics with German tongue from 1890 to 1916 (numbers 29– 54). The magazine was discontinued with issue 67 of 1930/31.
