Note on the literature house

The Literaturhaus Mattersburg is a cultural center in Mattersburg in Burgenland .

The Literaturhaus sees itself as a venue dedicated to literature , reading and writing, debate and intellectual culture. The literature house is located in Mattersburg in the far east of Austria, where Hertha Kräftner , one of the most important Burgenland authors, spent her childhood and youth.

The Mattersburg literature house was founded in 1994 and is sponsored by a non-profit association. Its program includes readings, exhibitions and discussion events, but also educational projects and a public library . The literature of Burgenland and its neighboring regions, the literature and culture of European border regions, contemporary Austrian literature as well as linguistic diversity, the culture of minorities, migration and integration are thematic priorities.

“Going beyond the limits” is a concern that can also be found in the way the Literaturhaus Mattersburg works. For example, it works with cultural and educational institutions in Burgenland and the neighboring regions. The Mattersburg Literature House deals with a concept of literature that transcends the boundaries of media and everyday culture. It wants to develop as a place of informal learning, as an interface between cultural and educational work in a rural region.

The guests of the Mattersburg Literature House include numerous award-winning personalities from home and abroad, including Safiye Can , Olga Martynova , Saša Stanišić and Michael Stavarič .
