Literature days Zofingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zofingen Literature Days are an annual literature festival that takes place in October in Zofingen . This ties in directly to the Frankfurt Book Fair and focuses on the discussion with the literature of the respective guest of honor. The aim of the series of events in Zofingen is to approach cultural areas that are often little known to the local public. The resulting impulses also stimulate Swiss cultural relations with the respective host country.

The Zofingen Literature Days were first held as the Russian Literature Days in 2006. For the second edition the decision fell on China . In connection with the unrest in Tibet, the event was postponed to 2009 in 2008. China was this year's guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair. That is why they sought contact in Frankfurt with those responsible for the host country. It was obvious to invite the respective guest of honor to Zofingen immediately after the events in Frankfurt. In 2010 Argentina and in 2011 Iceland accepted this invitation. After 2012 with New Zealand and 2013 with BrazilThe events took place in October 2014 with guests from Finland and in October 2015 with guests from Indonesia .

As a prelude to the 10th edition of the Zofingen Literature Days 2017, there was a conference on mediation with a focus on translation in cooperation with Kulturvermittlung Schweiz and Pro Helvetia . France , guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, and the French language were the focus. This included: reinventing the language - unknown language worlds open access to literature! It was a joint translation experiment by the translator Camille Luscher and Nicole Grieve, the head of the "Mediation" department, Department for Culture in the Canton of Valais .

Translation connects people and plays an important role in multilingual Switzerland and in an international context. With performative formats, reflective inputs and practice-oriented workshops, the participants dealt with the various facets of translation in intercultural contexts. People migrate between languages and cultures and come into contact with one another.
